The market and his specialities
Saturday, market day
From 8 am to 1 pm, all year round
Saint-Renan lives to the rhythm of the largest market in the Finistère. This important gourmet stopover is ideal to discover local produce.
Up to 300 exhibitors offer local produce from the sea, land, or a clever mix of both: cooked pork meat or cheese smoked with seaweed, a local speciality. Clothing, jewellery, antiques… The market is full of new discoveries!
Enjoy tasting seaweed-based products on sale at the market and in shops (special mention for the Molène sausage, delicious smoked pork sausage with seaweed) local sweet delicacies (crêpes, the far-four or the kouing amann) and the Kig Ha Farz of course.
Remember to get hold of a copy of the kig ha farz recipe, and a farz bag,
for sale in the tourist office.
The Kig Ha Farz or dumpling stew is prepared for special occasions, when friends and family come together to celebrate. This breton speciality brings out the local products. Kig Ha Farz is breton for Meat And Dough. The dough of buckwheat meal (black) or wheat meal (white) is cooked for several hours in a linen sac. It is served with meat, vegetables and “lipig” (sauce), a mixture of salted butter and shallots.
On market days you can have this delicious dish for lunch at the restaurant « Le Marimorgan » (every Saturday) or at the restaurant « Le Kreiz-Ker » (every first Saturday of the month).
